A starting point for beginners and new Muslims

What is Islam?

Islam is submission to Allah through Tawhid, obedience to Him, and following His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ. All prophets called people to worship Allah alone, and the law brought by Muhammad ﷺ is the final revealed law for humanity.

Short answer

To be Muslim is to worship Allah alone, believe in His Messenger Muhammad ﷺ, and learn what Allah has commanded so that you can act upon it according to your ability. A new Muslim is not expected to know every ruling in one day; the path begins with Tawhid and the Shahadah, then prayer, and continues gradually in knowledge and practice.

What are the pillars of Islam?

The Shahadah: to testify that none has the right to be worshipped except Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Prayer: five daily prayers. Zakah: an obligatory right in wealth when its conditions are met. Fasting Ramadan. Hajj to the Sacred House for whoever is able to make the journey.

Where should I begin?

Begin by understanding the Shahadah, then learn wudu and prayer. Do not let the amount of detail stop you from beginning. Ask scholars known for sound knowledge, Sunnah, and gentleness when you need guidance.
