The fifth pillar

Belief in the Last Day

Belief in the Hereafter is not only talk about the future; it is a scale that regulates the Muslim's decisions, people's rights and his preparation to meet Allah.

01

The destiny after this world

What is meant by the Last Day?

It is everything that Allah and His Messenger informed of that will happen after death: the trial of the grave, its punishment and bliss, the resurrection, the gathering, the reckoning, the scale, the bridge, and Paradise and the Fire.

02

Its effect on conduct

Why does this belief change a Muslim's life?

  • It makes action a responsibility, because the servant will stand before Allah.
  • It prevents injustice and consuming others' rights, even if people's accounting is absent.
  • It helps with patience; for this world is not the end of the story.
  • It pushes toward repentance and righteous action before the term runs out.
03

A sound balance

Between fear and hope

The believer remembers the reckoning and so fears shortcoming, and hopes for Allah's mercy and so thinks well of Him and acts, without feeling secure from Allah's plan or despairing of His mercy.
