Concessions and excuses

When is the Muslim permitted to break the fast?

The Shari'ah is built on ease, but applying a concession to a particular case needs knowing the details.

01

The mercy of the Shari'ah

Concessions are not a deficiency in religion

Allah legislated concessions when recognised excuses exist. Taking the lawful concession is obedience, just as fasting when able is obedience.

02

Illness and travel

The ruling depends on the situation

The sick and the traveller have known rulings on breaking the fast and making it up, and some details differ according to the type and duration of the illness and the travel and hardship.

03

Pregnancy, breastfeeding and old age

Details that need care

These chapters are not reduced to one answer for all people, because the ruling may relate to fear for oneself or the child, the ability to make up, and the continuation of the excuse.
