- From the text of the answer
English translation (unreviewed): This is a mistake and a means to much evil. The superior must not accept gifts, for they may be a bribe and a means to flattery and betrayal, except if he takes them for the hospital and for the hospital's interest, not for himself, and tells their giver so, saying to him: 'These are for the interest of the hospital, I do not take them myself.' It is more cautious to return them and not accept them for himself or for the hospital, since that may draw him into taking them for himself, may lead to suspicion of him, and the giver may become emboldened towards him because of them, hoping for better treatment than others; because when the Messenger ﷺ sent some people to collect zakat, [one] said: 'This is for you and this was given to me as a gift', the Prophet ﷺ rebuked him for that, addressed the people and said: “What is the matter with a man whom we appoint over some matter of Allah's affairs, and he says: this is for you and this ...”
- How the shaykh reasons from it
English translation (unreviewed): This hadith indicates that the employee in any government work must carry out what he is entrusted with, and may not take gifts connected with his work; and if he takes them he should put them in the public treasury, and he may not take them for himself because of this authentic hadith, and because it is a means to evil and a breach of trust. There is no power and no might except with Allah [1].
