The path of knowing Allah and His oneness ← Lesson 9
The pillars of faith
Faith is not a general feeling without content; it has clear foundations that the Prophet ﷺ informed of: belief in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and the decree, its good and evil.
The comprehensive idea
Faith is belief, speech and action
Faith begins in the heart: knowledge, belief, love and submission, and it appears on the tongue and the limbs. So belief is not separated from worship and conduct; what settles in the heart directs speech and action.
The hadith of Jibril
The six pillars
Belief in Allah
Belief in His existence, lordship, divinity and His names and attributes as they came.
His angels
Honoured servants whom Allah created, who do not disobey Him and do what they are commanded.
His books
Belief in the books that Allah revealed, the Qur'an being their seal and guardian over them.
His messengers
Allah sent them with guidance, and their seal is Muhammad ﷺ.
The Last Day
The resurrection, reckoning, Paradise and the Fire and what Allah informed of after death.
The decree
Belief in Allah's knowledge, writing, will and creation, and that what He wills is.
From the hadith of Jibril
«أن تؤمن بالله وملائكته وكتبه ورسله واليوم الآخر، وتؤمن بالقدر خيره وشره».“That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers and the Last Day, and that you believe in the decree, its good and its evil.”
Not only memorisation
How does faith change your life?
- Belief in Allah produces love, fear, hope and reliance.
- Belief in the Last Day regulates action, intention and rights.
- Belief in the decree prevents despair and objection, and combines taking the means with contentment.
- Belief in the messengers and books makes revelation the reference, not desires.
